Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The School of Medicine (SOM) Facilities Planning Office is responsible for planning and coordinating capital construction projects including feasibility analysis, programming, design and construction through building occupancy. The office is also responsible for the planning and coordination with UNC Facilities Services for both formal and informal renovation projects, management of over 1.3 million net assignable square feet of existing space in over 25 buildings, oversight of SOM research operations in leased space, operation and oversight of the SOM Photo ID/Building Access and Security Office, as well as short-term and long-range facilities master planning, and coordination with UNC Environment Health and Safety (EHS) to meet laboratory safety requirements including oversight of SOM high containment laboratory facilities (Biological Safety Level 3) and those operating with Select Agent pathogens.The UNC School of Medicine has a rich tradition of excellence and care. Position Summary:

The School of Medicine (SOM) Planning Office is seeking a Senior Project Manager for capital construction and long-term planning. This position will report directly to the Associate Director of SOM Planning Office and assist with the physical development of the School of Medicine building inventory by the application of strong technical and management skills in order to affect the School's mission and objectives. This position will oversee the programming, planning, design and construction of School of Medicine projects which range in scope, complexity, magnitude and diversity including new buildings, renovations of existing buildings and interior space improvement activities.The Project Manager will work with SOM project user groups and committees, UNC Facilities Services Planning & Design staff, designers/architects/engineers, contractors, inspectors, suppliers, maintenance staff and others to assure that the projects meet the user group and SOM requirements, conform to established budgets and timelines. The position will maintain cost data and perform related project duties as required. This position will be responsible for directing budget and financial management for units under their responsibility, including capital project needs assessment and reconciling income and expenses. This will require collaboration with facilities operations staff and business office for budget development and long-term planning. This position will manage project budgets, implement cost-saving measures, and oversee contracts to ensure fiscal stability.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment, of which at least one is supervisory or in a lead-worker capacity; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Position requires strong oral and written communication skills, ability to work under pressure, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as outstanding negotiation and time management skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word & Excel; experience with AutoCAD required.Professional knowledge and skill in business operations and financial forecasting including establishing long-range financial objectives to meet strategic goals of a multifaceted organization. Ability to allocate resources, plan procurement, and oversee budgets and contracts to ensure fiscal stability of the organization.Ability to conduct financial management responsibilities in a multifaceted (e.g., multiple programs, departments, etc.) organization primarily funded by a broad range of (multi-dimensional) funding sources that may include an income generation component.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Prefer a Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer with medical and/or higher educational background. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Prefer a candidate with knowledge and applied understanding of:-planning in a medical school/healthcare and cutting-edge research environment including design and infrastructure requirements for complex/sophisticated laboratory, computational, specialty services and educational space.-state and federal regulations, statutes, and governing policies and procedures of the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Chapel Hill.Prefer working knowledge of Revit software application.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements:

May work in varying temperatures and weather conditions, around chemicals or chemical fumes, bio-hazards, electrical or mechanical hazards, use of manual dexterity, climbing of ladders, and require exposure to active construction sites and standard office conditions.
