Dexcom hardware engineering teams design and develop complex electromechanical sensor-based technologies comprising of Algorithms, electronics, mechanical designs, polymer science and firmware. The Vice President of Hardware Engineering is accountable for successful development, testing, and performance of the hardware components of the Dexcom global product portfolio. The role will be responsible for developing products, managing programs, researching new ideas, and establishing a product development roadmap, which ensuring that all departmental activities are aligned with the overall company goals and strategies. The focus with be on both theoretical and practical solution development through the application of scientific process to deliver innovative products to the market.

Where you come in:

  • Oversee a functional organization of hardware engineering and ensure delivery of hardware products while supporting a unified culture, vision and strategy for overall product development
  • Ensure delivery of technology and product development cycles on-time, on budget and with high quality results. HW leadership with experience in electrical design, PCBA's, connectivity solutions, mechanical tooling, molding, and firmware management.
  • Develop technology roadmaps that align with corporate strategy
  • Successfully manage product and technology lifecycles for highly complex wearable platforms. Requires detailed oriented approach, lead design decisions, and bring technology products to market.
  • Implements the appropriate level of engineering process, rigor, and cross functional review within the organization. Proven track record of implementing Design for six sigma, Design for manufacturing, and Design for reliability.
  • Implement product development process improvements and efficiencies
  • Oversees delivery of engineering projects while supporting a unified culture, vision and strategy for the organization
  • Assures that company milestones and plans are developed for each project and that the planned results are realized
  • Reviews staffing levels for R&D programs and recruit and hire staff to fill key roles in the engineering organization. Hire and grow a strong team by evaluating existing talent and skillsets. Strengthen the engineering bench and attract highest talent pool.
  • Analyzes research data and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, regulation and security in medical device technology space
  • Meet or exceed research and technology goals by establishing a strong results-oriented culture in a matrixed organization
  • Coordinate and communicate with other senior leaders on product roadmap, feature sets, partnership opportunities, key performance indicators, financial results and other management priorities.
  • Successfully transfer New Product Development programs into high volume production utilizing concurrent engineering principles. Establish strong cross functional partnerships.
  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement in product quality and design
  • Establish a culture of innovation by developing best-inclass technology development programs.
  • Own product costs including electrical and mechanical components.

  • Highly collaborative and desire to reach across the organization to understand stakeholder needs and how to meet those needs
  • Ability to organize, motivate and lead diverse engineering teams in a quickly growing and agile/flexible corporate environment.
  • Strong technical background in mechanical, firmware, and electrical engineering with the ability to quickly come up to speed on various technologies and build immediate credibility with technical team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a large number of diverse projects while constantly communicating results and maintaining alignment with the R&D Senior Leadership team and the Product Management Team.
  • Develop, motivate, and retain high potential talent at multiple sites.
  • Strong ability to access engineering talent and ensure the organization is structured and staffed to successfully deliver on objectives

Travel Required:
  • 15-25%

Experience and Education
  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 20+ years of industry experience.
  • 15+ years of successful leadership experience in relevant industry.
