Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred. An Associate's Degree may be substituted in lieu of 2 years of required experience. Life experiences appropriate to the position is preferred.

Work hours for the position: Shift begins Sunday at 4pm and ends Friday at 9am

Supervises: Direct Care Worker as assigned

Summary: The House Manager supervises adults with disabilities, using reasonable actions to ensure the safety and well-being of each adult, effectively communicate facility and programmatic behavioral expectations and limitations to adults, and maintain compliance with agency policies and procedures and established state and federal standards and requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist each resident toward the achievement of active treatment goals, working both formally and informally to provide active treatment through all activities and interactions as trained and document formal active treatment.
  • Reports serious incidents to Program Director or Administrator on Duty promptly. Assist residents, as needed, with showers, brushing teeth, and other personal hygiene or grooming needs.
  • Prompts and provides training to residents on laundry, cleaning, daily living skills and cooking following established menus.
  • Provides transportation for residents to events and activities or with shopping needs and personal errands following all transportation protocols and training.
  • Communicates promptly with Program Director and QIDP regarding needs and problems of individual residents.
  • Establishes a safe, comfortable, home-like environment for residents and prompts residents in maintain the home.
  • Orients residents to his/her living quarters, daily schedule, and household routines with supervision of residents at all times.
  • Promotes independence and offers choices for each resident
  • Praises and rewards residents' appropriate behaviors and redirects inappropriate behaviors.
  • Submits work orders for needed repairs and maintenance to Helpdesk in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Leaves clear instructions for weekend relief staff to follow.
  • Ensures safety and supervision of residents while in group activities, giving one-on-one attention to any resident who is stressed, distressed, or in need of special support for a brief interval of time.
  • Advocates for residents' rights and needs.
  • Works as assigned by the Director of Residential Services.
  • Follows all BVT policies and procedures, as well as state and federal guidelines as required by CMS, HHSC , DFPS, other regulatory agencies.
  • Complete all required documentation prior to completion of shift.
  • Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program supervisor

Measurable Deliverables:
  • Assists each resident toward the achievement of active treatment goals and documents suing agency approved method of documentation.
  • Supports residents in each home during self-administration of medications and insures documentation is accurate.
  • Follows BVT Medical Decision Tree and communicate accordingly
  • Documents resident behaviors on appropriate forms such as Incident and Accident Reports, Behavior Progress Notes, Weekly Progress Notes, or other forms as necessary through Therap.
  • Conducts required fire drills and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Support residents through effective use of positive behavior support plans Complete grocery, household and hygiene supply shopping monthly
  • Submit Concur reports on time and complete
  • Performs and maintains routine checks and documentation to Hot Water Temperature Checks, Water Pressure Checks, Refrigerator Checks, Emergency Lights, Emergency Food and Water Checks, etc.
  • Maintain annual training requirements
  • Maintain a secure campus environment by using proper application of radio communication protocols including responding to all radio calls.
  • Take actions to promote positive interaction between residents and encourage residents to take responsibility in the daily routine of the facility.
  • Model culturally and socially desired behaviors while explaining the behaviors to residents to facilitate learning and replication of the behaviors.
  • Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by position supervisor.
  • Implement BVT safety protocols including evacuating with residents and other staff in case of an emergency.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of resident and program operations.
  • Maintain BVT professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in BCFS employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, clients, client's family members and community members and complying with required dress code at all times

Other Responsibilities:
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by Director of Residential Services.
  • Maintain "On-Call" availability as directed by the Program Director.

Credential, Skills and Abilities:
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid Texas drivers' license, work eligibility status and have a good driving record.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Must pass all pre-employment background checks including: Criminal History, Employee Misconduct, Nurse's Aide Registry, driving check and pass annual background checks.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screen throughout employment.
  • Knows the indicators of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and appropriate reporting and documentation procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to:
  • Be appropriately firm, flexible, and patient with residents.
  • Know when to ignore and when to correct undesirable behavior in residents and how to address such behaviors without setting up power struggles.
  • Praise and reward appropriate behaviors and redirect inappropriate behaviors.
  • Employ preventive and de-escalation techniques in crisis intervention.
  • Administer, document, and storage of resident medications.
  • Show appreciation and appropriate affection consistent with professional boundaries to residents without the gesture being misinterpreted.
  • Communicate in both written and oral communication.
  • Know normal patterns of human growth and development.
  • Function compatibly and participate constructively in a team environment and maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to work efficiently without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Teach and mentor residents.
  • Administer first aid and CPR if necessary.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Residential Services policies and procedures.
